A Brief History of Hollywood

In the 1950s, Hollywood is faced with an audience it had never before targeted: teenagers. With its rock and roll soundtrack, 1955’s BLACKBOARD JUNGLE is one of the first films to speak directly to a teenage audience. Later that same year, Warner Bros. releases REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, an angst-ridden drama exploring the disillusioned teenage generation raised during the War. The film stars television actor James Dean, who becomes an overnight icon amongst teenagers and a critical darling for his wounded, emotionally-charged performance. At age 24, while shooting EAST OF EDEN, Dean is killed in a car accident in the California desert, cutting short a promising career after only three films.
